Top 5 Bathroom Trends of 2023

A remarkable surge of creativity and inspiration from past decades has heavily influenced current bathroom design. 2023 has unveiled some of the most unique trends seen in years. Unprecedented and wildly popular aesthetic choices are stirring up designers, who are taking to social media to rave about the unparalleled individuality of this year’s bathroom trends. From color palettes to layouts, the 2023 bathroom stylistics have become an iconic phenomenon of the times.

Neutral and Natural

Bathrooms no longer look like they did in the ’60s. Bright colors, mismatched patterns, and an artificial ambiance are outdated; the neutral and natural are in.

Neutral color palettes became increasingly popular post-pandemic, and in 2023 it has hit the bathrooms. Beige, taupe, gray, cream, brown, black, and white are all the dominating colors of this year’s designs – a cross between minimalistic and contemporary styles.

Natural elements included in bathrooms are becoming more frequent, especially the use of live plants for both decoration and health benefits. Greenery is usually used as a pop of color within a neutral palette for visual purposes. However, people have found that hanging plants such as eucalyptus in your shower can also serve as a health benefit.

Following the theme, exposed wood and lighting play a big part in 2023 bathroom design trends. Wood lattice is commonly used to add a natural feel, and aside from access to natural light, soft lights are preferred to white LEDs.

Bathtubs – Yes or No?

Bathtubs have become quite a controversial topic. To have one or not to have one? There are a few different tub/shower variations that have taken over the internet and bathroom design.

The first trend is to get rid of bathtubs altogether. No more caulking gaps or bulky plastic. Those that have decided to ditch the tub have turned to luxury walk-in showers.

Some people are highly against getting rid of bathtubs and instead have turned towards making their tub the statement piece in the room. From antique free-standing clawfoot tubs to minimalistic round acrylic tubs, some people are not willing to get rid of this luxury in 2023.

Then we have the people who can’t make a decision and have decided to combine showers and bathtubs. This has been a sought-after feature for family homes that makes bathtime a completely new adventure. These shower-tub combos are usually a large closed-off shower that has a tub inside the enclosure keeping all water, toys, and bubbles inside.

Geometric Tiles

Geometric tiles have been used for both flooring and accent walls. Some people are adding dimension from the ground up and including a pop of color or structure on the floor, while others are opting for it to be at eye level.

Instead of painting an accent wall or using wallpaper in a bathroom, geometric tiles have been used to create unique walls with some depth.

Statement Sinks

In the past, sinks have never been a big design focal point. In 2023, sinks are often the statement piece in a bathroom whether it be due to the color, material, size, shape, or faucet choice.

Open spout faucets are seen everywhere now. This modern design eliminates the need for two faucet handles and implements the single lever. Not to mention, the open spout emulates a waterfall and contributes to a relaxing ambiance.

Further custom design choices for sinks are very much a free-for-all, largely depending on personal preference, but there are sink color and shape choices that have dominated in popularity.

A dark monochromatic faucet pairs perfectly with a sleek, shiny, solid-colored sink and is one trendy design choice. Another favored style combines a free-standing, bowl-like sink and aged brass hardware.

Mirror, Mirror

Mirrors can add a chic look to a renovated bathroom, and 2023 mirror trends for bathrooms specifically have not disappointed. Thin, simple frames with backlighting are the new desirable mirror types. The lights allow for dimmer illumination in the morning, at night, or for taking pictures, and the frame style fits perfectly with minimalistic design.

The shape of trendy mirrors definitely falls into a more contemporary category and feeds into designs from past decades due to the curved, circular, and oval shape popularity.
